Mauritius will be fully reopening its borders on October 1, 2021, allowing the entry of tourists with no restrictions. The restriction-free entry will apply to all vaccinated travelers regardless of the country they came from.
Visitors will only need to present a negative result of a Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure. As soon as they arrive, they will be allowed to freely explore the island.
Current Entry Requirements to Mauritius
Mauritius has reopened to tourists since July 2021. However, to protect the islands from the spread of Covid-19 infections, the government has put in place several restrictions on visiting tourists.
If you plan on visiting Mauritius before October 1, 2021, you are only allowed to stay in any of the “Certified Covid-19 Safe Hotels“. You can book these hotels through a tour operator, travel agent, or directly through the accommodation. During the first 14 days, you must only stay at your hotel. After 14 days, you will be tested for the Covid-19 virus through a PCR test. If the result is negative, you are free to roam the islands.
Meanwhile, all unvaccinated travelers are required to undergo testing upon arrival and must stay in quarantine for 14 days at an official quarantine hotel. They must be kept isolated inside their quarantine room. During quarantine, they will be tested for the virus on the 17th and 14th days. If all the results return negative, they will be allowed to explore the island freely.
For tourists who will spend less than 14 days in Mauritius, they must immediately return to their country of origin at the end of their holiday.
Restriction-Free Entry to Mauritius
Thanks to the country’s successful vaccination program, Mauritius will finally be reopening its borders fully with no restrictions on October 1, 2021. All tourists are welcome, regardless of the country they came from. However, they must be fully vaccinated and must show proof of full vaccination. All travelers are also required to submit a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before departure to the island.
Unvaccinated travelers can enter Mauritius as tourists, however, they will have to follow certain restrictions. First, they must book a stay at an official quarantine hotel. They must stay isolated for the entire 14 days. On days 7 and 14, the guest will be tested for Covid-19 through a PCR test. If the results are negative, they are free to explore the island.
