Detailed information about who can enter the United States right now and what are the current restrictions.
The United States of America remained open to most travelers with valid US visas. In fact, they did not close their borders at all. However, the US suspended tourist visas and banned travelers from Europe, Iran, Brazil, and China from entering the United States.
Who Can Travel To The U.S.A. For Tourism?
The following countries can enter the United States. These countries do not need a visa and are not included in President Trump’s travel ban:
- New Zealand
- South Korea
- Canada (Air only)
Depending on which US State a traveler is arriving at, he or she may face quarantine and social distancing measures. Therefore before traveling, we highly recommend for you to check with the U.S. consulate in your country. This is to ensure that you will be granted the right to enter the United States.
Can Canadians Enter The United Sates For Tourism?
Canadians can enter the United States but only by air. This is because the land border between the USA and Canada is closed for non-essential travel. Air Canada, United Airlines, and American Airlines confirmed that there are no restrictions for Canadians traveling by air to the United States.
On the other hand, US citizens can not travel to Canada by air or by land. Canada remains closed to all foreign travelers, with specific exceptions such as direct family members and essential workers.
Who Can NOT Travel To The United States?
On January 31st, President Donald Trump banned all travelers who have been to China in the past 14 days prior to entering the US. As of today, the ban is still in place and strictly enforced. Meanwhile, American citizens are exempted from the proclamation and may return to the US from China at any time.
Same with China, President Trump banned all travelers who have been to Iran in the past 14 days prior to entering the US. Subsequently with the exemption of US citizens to be able to return home at any given time.
US President Donald Trump banned all travelers from Brazil or anyone that has been to Brazil in the last 14 days as of May 24th. Likewise, United States citizens are exempt from the proclamation and may return home from Brazil at any time.
The Trump administration closed the U.S. Borders to all travelers arriving from Europe with the exemption of US citizens coming home. The ban is still in place so that is to say, all European can’t travel to the US at the moment. And anyone coming from Europe or who has visited Europe in the last 14 days will not be permitted to enter the United States.
If you hold a passport from these countries and have a valid Visa or ESTA for the United States, you could enter but you must provide proof you have been OUTSIDE of all the banned countries for the past 14 days.

- United Kingdom
- Republic of Ireland
U.S. Land Borders to Canada and Mexico
US/Canada and US/Mexico land borders are closed to non-essential travelers. In other words, tourists will not be allowed entry unless they are returning home to their country of origin.
U.S. Tourist/Visitor Visas Currently Suspended
All visa services for the United States have been temporarily suspended meaning that tourist visas will NOT be issued. That is to say, all countries that require a tourist visa to enter the United States will not be able to enter the US until visa services are resumed.
What Are The States That Require Quarantine?
These are some of the States that are requiring all arriving passengers to self-isolate for 14 days depending on which country and which State they are flying from:
- New Jersey
- Rhode Island
- New York
- New Mexico
These are the States that recommend travelers to quarantine for 14 days when arriving from high risk COVID-19 area, cruise ships, and international tarvel:
- West Virginia
- South Carolina
- New Hampshire
